2015 was a very giving year! Donations to our regular charity groups were as follows:
Elks National Fund for Kids -- $5,000
BC Elks Camps -- $4,000
Hearing Resource Centre -- $1,500
Surrey Food Bank -- $1,000
Alexander House -- $1,000
--- plus funding to 10 other groups.
The Hearing Resource Centre had additional help as we designated it to be the recipient of funds raised by our Golf Tournament, which was coordinated so well by Doug Hakin. Congratulations also to Ken Fraser who cooked the pig roast for our dinner!
Mary Fraser helped boost our gaming fund with Friday night Paddle sales. The Car Show, Jimmy Kennedy Songbook concert and our Hootenanny concert all raised funds for our charities. Our partnership with Save-On Foods was very helpful in reducing the time and cost of the Car Show event. The Caroline's Cart project, started by Grand Lodge, was another successful undertaking by our lodge, and with help from Save-On Foods we procured a Caroline's Cart to facilitate shopping for families with a member who has special-needs.
We assisted one family in the community with expenses related to a cochlear implant.
We made a $1,500 donation to the White Rock / South Surrey Stroke Recovery Association in recognition of their support for patients in the community recovering from strokes.
I attended two events this year on behalf of the Charity Committee. I must also note that it was nice too see some of our charities help us with events such as the Elks Annual Children's Christmas Party. We need more of that.
Our budget this year was $20,000 and we managed to spend it all. We hope to increase our target in 2016.
